Powering the passion! €1 million boost for Maltese festas under 2025 Artistic Heritage Scheme
Now in its second year, the scheme has seen strong engagement from the cultural sector
Traditional Maltese feasts are set to receive a significant financial boost through the 2025 edition of the Artistic Heritage Scheme, with €1 million allocated to support and sustain these cultural events.
Announced by Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, the scheme’s first call has already distributed €800,000 to 83 successful applicants. A second call for proposals is expected in August, offering further funding opportunities.
Now in its second year, the scheme has seen strong engagement from the cultural sector. Due to growing demand in 2024, the original €700,000 allocation was increased by €300,000 - marking a 43% rise in support for traditional celebrations.
Mary Ann Cauchi, Chief Operating Officer (Finance & Strategy) at the Malta Arts Council, highlighted the scheme’s alignment with Strategy 2025, Malta’s national cultural roadmap. ‘These initiatives allow us to offer sustainable support for local traditions and improve their accessibility, so everyone in the community can participate and enjoy them,’ she said.
Through continued investment, the Artistic Heritage Scheme aims to preserve and promote Malta’s intangible cultural heritage, ensuring its legacy thrives for future generations.
