Peak performance! 11-Year-Old Lyam sets record as youngest Maltese to summit Mount Toubkal
At just 11 years old, Lyam has achieved something truly extraordinary; becoming the youngest Maltese person to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal, the tallest peak in North Africa.
Standing at an impressive 4,167 metres above sea level, Mount Toubkal is no easy feat, even for seasoned climbers. Yet Lyam took on the challenge with determination and heart, accompanied every step of the way by his mother, Antea Camilleri, making the achievement all the more meaningful.
Lyam undertook the climb as part of a charitable mission, aiming to help build four classrooms in Ethiopia for children his age through the Sigma Foundation. His journey was one of both physical endurance and compassion.
Sharing their experience on social media, Antea reflected on the final moments of the climb: ‘We were advised to give a final push and stop when altitude sickness hit at full speed. But he fought through.’ Despite the risks, Lyam persevered and made it to the summit, etching his name into local history.
Well done Lyam and all the team!
