Passiggata time! 5 light walking routes to help you trim down post-Christmas season
Getting active in the winter is not an easy task at all. The idea of the heading out to work out in the cold or hitting the gym post-Christmas is not a pretty thought, but neither are the hooks and creases on yo’ hips mama! Finding the perfect spot to get a little exercise (and not freeze your tits off in the process) is a tough one but here's a short list to help you:
Xlendi Cliffs
Gozo’s first up today, with Xlendi Cliffs as the starting point. Here, you’re high up from the ground, trekking along and trying to find your path through the light shrubbery which surrounds you. The view of the sea - a Mediterranean wonder that can draw you into its deep blue fantasy - lies right in front. Savour it until the winds (or winter rain) become too strong.
Mgarr ix-Xini
Another great spot on our smaller rock, the Mgarr ix-Xini spectacle is the very spot where By the Sea, a Brangelina movie was shot. Now, the views in that film were gorgeous - all local, and all ours to enjoy! The walk here is quite rewarding and there are so many great scenes to feast your eyes on. Look up to view the gorgeous Gozitan sky, look ahead and rest your eyes on the amazing sea and cliff, as you trek through the area.
Comino
Comino is a trekker's paradise. Walking around an island flanked by turquoise, crystal clear and ever inviting waters is just as beautiful during the winter season so, go ahead and embark on a hunt for the perfect secluded spot! Once you pick up the pace and scurry your way over the garrigue, you’ll soon find a patch that screams your name. Claim it, respect it, enjoy it!
Sliema Promenade
This may be considered cheating, but a walk on the Sliema Promenade is never a shabby idea. The popular summer spot is a little quieter in the winter, but a choice to consider just the same. Finding a nice spot to stretch out those tired muscles always sounds like a great idea. There are a few solitary trees left out there. Find one and give those clad muscles some TLC!
Buskett
Buskett is the perfect a winter or autumn (or spring or summer!) destination, especially for your overdue picnic. Buskett will allow you to hit the ground running. We’re talking full on sweat fest, heart pumping and music playlist running on and on (if you're into intense workouts, that is). The many shaded areas in Buskett make it an ideal place to get some cardio in, or just a brisk walk if that's what you fancy. There are so many routes you can take while pacing around the woodland. No sea here folks, just oxygen-filled air!
