Your sweet tooth is about to get a major kick thanks to new Sliema café, Zwiit. Opening its doors just a couple of weeks ago, the ‘cravings café’ located on Sliema’s busy Tower Road offers a concept Malta’s never seen before: building your own doughnuts, churros, waffles and imqaret, using any combination of fillings and toppings you choose.

OMG, I know.

Here's how it works. You start by choosing a base – either a doughnut (or two, or four), churros, waffle (or waffle stick) or imqaret (date cakes). You then choose your filling from a variety of chocolate sauces and ice cream flavours, and then, the best part: the toppings. From crushed cookies to chopped chocolates and sweets, you can combine anything your naughty little mind comes up with, and there you go, ready to dig in!

I had to check this place out as soon as I heard about it, and while I was tempted to try the Maltese mqaret for some local flavour, ended up choosing the doughnuts for my sinful treat.

(Oh, they also have doughnut specials available, which are custom made and decorated every morning. But while these nearly had me, with that tempting sweet spread at the counter, I just couldn’t resist building my own.)

After the friendly manager talked me through the selection, I went for a mix of chocolate sauces, chocolate pieces and cookies, and can I just say, it was basically heaven.

And the best thing about it? Just across the road, you can tuck into your sweet treats as you bask in the incredible sea view from the Sliema promenade. What’s not to love?

Have you been to Zwiit yet?
