It’s part of a chain of projects for the locality.
Another historical site on the Maltese Islands is set to receive a major facelift soon! Next up is the Mtarfa square and clocktower, which are in dire need of some restoration and a little TLC.
The restoration project
An investment of €1.5 million euros is being put up for the restoration of the Mtarfa clocktower and the rebuilding of the square nearby, giving the area a new lease of life and allowing it to serve community needs.
This project is part of a chain of other projects in Mtarfa that will introduce a new swings and play area and a new library, certainly giving a vibrant community feel!
The clock tower
Built in 1895, the Mtarfa clocktower is a prominent landmark in the locality. After all this time, the clock itself still functions in perfect condition, but the structure needs some maintenance.
The serene locality
Mtarfa is set on a hill of fertile land and boasts views of lush greenery and the Silent City of Mdina. In the 1800s, the British used this location as a military base and residential area for British army personnel stationed in Malta.
The British basically military-fied the whole town, building a hospital which has since been turned into a school, and barracks which have been transformed into housing estates.
We can’t wait to see what the new square will be like!
