Mother of facelifts! Marsaxlokk niche restored to its former glory
The monument is dedicated to Christ the Redeemer

Caroline Curmi

A niche in Marsaxlokk has undergone an amazing transformation in the past year after receiving some much-needed restorative care.

Works on the niche included the cleaning of several stone surfaces as well as the removal of cables and wires. It was also given a new colour scheme, after it was spotted that differently coloured layers of paint where present beneath the surface layer.

Confusion surrounds the late-19th-century niche, dedicated to Christ the Redeemer, as the exact date of completion is not clear: while the year 1883 is inscribed at the back, the year 1884 is mentioned in the marble plaque on the niche's façade.

When she’s not having a quarter-life crisis, Caroline is either drawing in a café, frittering her salary on sushi or swearing at traffic in full-on Gozitan. There is also the occasional daytime drink somewhere in the equation. Or two. A creative must be allowed at least one vice.
