‘Moksha’: Art exhibition on the freedom of growth at Mqabba’s ‘Kamra ta’ Fuq’ next month
The art gallery ‘Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq,’ nestled in a charming corner of the village of Mqabba, will be hosting Italian artist Rebecca Ranieri and her exhibition titled ‘Moksha’ between 13th September and 6th October, which is being curated by Melanie Erixon.
The word ‘moksha’ refers to the freedom and empowerment of the self, a concept rooted in Indian philosophies. The freedom it speaks of is one on several levels – from the freedom of ignorance achieved through the cognisance of one’s true nature to the liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth.
The works featured in this exhibition seek to depict this journey of self-discovery towards freedom through images of figures and faces displaying growth of various sorts, showing various facets of each character.
Through ‘Moksha’, the artist experiments with the transformative nature of light, as well as the manipulation of paper as a mode of self expression, providing visitors with an innovative way of engaging both physically and intellectually with the process of growth.
