In celebration of the vibrant St George’s Festa Week, Il-Ħaġar – Heart of Gozo Museum in Victoria is extending its opening hours from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July 2025. This special week invites locals and visitors to delve into a rich blend of history, art, and culture within one of Gozo’s most treasured institutions.

Throughout the week, guests can explore both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Highlights include a striking collection of art spanning from renowned 17th- and 18th-century Maltese masters to contemporary talents. Of particular note is Carmelo Mangion: Mystery and Modernity, a retrospective showcasing 65 works by the influential pioneer of 20th-century Maltese art.

Also on display are sacred relics and ornaments linked to St George’s Basilica and treasures from the Conventual Church of St Francis. Rare archaeological finds enrich the exhibits, including terracotta lamps and pottery from the time of the divided kingdoms of Judah and Israel, dating back 2,800 years, and ancient coins from 110 BC.

The museum also houses the Joseph Vella Music Archive, the Joseph Baruch Silver Collection, and unique papal artifacts - such as Pope Benedict XVI’s zucchetto worn on the day of his abdication, and Pope Francis’ conclave cassock.

Visitors can also enjoy the rooftop bar, The Roof at Il-Ħaġar, offering snacks, drinks, and sweeping views of Victoria and its surroundings.

A must-visit during festa week, Il-Ħaġar blends faith, heritage, and contemporary culture in the heart of Gozo.
