This is the first time that Malta has joined the 32 countries already covered by the Michelin Guide 2020.
After months of speculation, MICHELIN Guide have finally revealed which local establishments will be receiving their stars.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, said: “We are delighted to present our first ever edition of the MICHELIN Guide to the islands of Malta and Gozo. This selection reflects the diversity of the islands’ cuisine, the talents of its chefs and the quality of the ingredients available to them.”
One Star
De Mondion
Widely acknowledged as one of the top restaurants in Malta, the elegant de Mondion offers excellent service, food quality and presentation, and an extensive wine list. The terrace, on the Mdina bastions, enjoys a beautiful view of more than half the island, so it certainly ticks all the boxes.
Noni
Located in a stylishly refurbished former jazz bar, the gorgeous Noni, headed by chef Jonathan Brincat, reinterprets traditional Maltese dishes, from fried rabbit to te fit-tazza(tea in a tumbler), and adds a touch of French cuisine flair, with exquisite results.
Under Grain
Under Grain delivers a different concept, allowing guests to immerse themselves into an environment of informal luxury and to enjoy a more refined experience. The menu is concise but is assured to be of the highest quality and curation.

Terrone
Found in Marsaxlokk, Terrone combines rustic charm with contemporary regional cuisine, focusing on southern Italian and local Maltese food. The menu is kept concise, ensuring that dishes are based on fresh and seasonal produce. Paying attention to detail, Terrone offers an outstanding meal in a welcoming environment.
Commando
Set inside a 300-year-old building, Commando Restaurant is perched on a hilltop in the historic centre of Mellieha, with summertime seating is available outside on the picturesque square. Offering warm, family-run service and an exceptional menu, the simple-yet-refined dishes Commando serves are extraordinary.
Rubino
Open to clients since 1906 Rubino is one of the oldest establishments in Valletta. Their acclaimed menu changes daily and focuses on classic Maltese and Italian dishes. Aside from Rubino's flavourful cuisine, the restaurants welcoming environment and top-notch service makes this place a true gem.
