Those summer nights! Remember the iconic lemon granita from Balluta’s kiosk in the ‘80s?
Missing summer yet?

Francesca Vella

It's often said that the world's population is divided into two - those whose idea of heaven is cosying up inside on these chilly winter nights, and the others currently longing for balmy summer nights spent devouring a refreshing ice-cream.

A photo recently shared on the community page ‘St Julian’s Malta’ hailing from the 1980s, has brought about some summer nostalgia in many, bringing back sweet memories of the popular lemon granita sold at the Balluta kiosk, around the same point where the Sliema and St Julian’s coasts meet.

Commenters recall spending many days and nights in the area, which was a popular one for tourists and locals alike, with the kiosk acting as a meeting place for both children and adults.

Some expats recalled having their first taste of the local soft drink Kinnie there, but the vast majority mentioned the lemon granita made from fresh lemons – a refreshing treat that hits the spot like no other under the hot summer sun!

Have you ever visited this historic kiosk?
