The de Mondion Restaurant in Mdina is mourning the loss of one of its longest-serving team members, Roderick Micallef, who passed away over the weekend. Known not only for his culinary skill but also for his warmth and enduring positivity, Roderick was a beloved part of the restaurant's close-knit kitchen team.

A familiar face within The Xara Collection, Roderick dedicated over 25 years of his life to the company, treating it as his second home. During his long-standing career, he played a significant role in shaping the kitchen's character – not only through his craft, but through the many young chefs he mentored and inspired along the way.

‘Roderick’s big smile brought so much joy to the restaurant,’ the team at de Mondion shared their announcement of the news on social media. ‘Whatever he was going through, he remained positive and always made those around him feel good.’

Described as a colleague, friend, and brother, Roderick leaves behind not just a professional legacy but a personal one, remembered for his generosity, good humour, and unwavering spirit.

His passing is felt deeply by those who worked alongside him and by many within Malta’s culinary community who crossed paths with him over the years.

‘We will deeply miss you but will treasure all the wonderful memories together. Until we meet again.’

Deepest condolences to all of Chef Roderick’s loved ones and colleagues.
