Maltese track legend Janet Richard made Maltese history yesterday after setting a new national record for the 400-metre race.
The athlete broke the record at this year’s edition of the European Championships in Munich during the first round of the Women’s 400-metre race.
Janet participated in the second heat, wherein she was up against athletes from Poland, France, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Czech Republic, and Finland.
The Maltese athlete finished the race in 53.49 seconds, smashing her own previous record of 54.06 seconds, and coming in seventh place.
Poland’s Iga Baumgar-Witan came in first, finishing at an impressive 51.09 seconds.
“Still need time to process what just happened. Thank you so much for everyone’s support,” Janet wrote on social media, celebrating her achievement.
The post’s comments section was soon flooded with messages of congratulations.
Well done, Janet!
