A huge moment for Malta’s creative industry! Local VFX company Stargate Studios Malta is celebrating big news, as the Black Mirror episode they worked on – ‘USS Callister – Into Infinity’ – has been nominated for the Emmy Award ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode’.

Stargate Studios Malta played a key role behind the scenes, delivering some of the mind-bending visual effects that brought this space-based dystopian sci-fi instalment to life.

The studio shared the news on social media, saying: ‘Massive news! We are absolutely chuffed to announce that we're nominated for an Emmy for our work on the mind-bending episode 'USS Callister - Into Infinity' from the latest season of Black Mirror! A huge thank you to our incredible team, ably led by our talented VFX supervisor Jonathan Caruana who brought the visuals to life.’

They also expressed their appreciation to the Black Mirror creators – Charlie Brooker, Josie Henwood and James MacLachlan – for trusting them with the project once again. ‘It's been an absolute privilege to work on it. We're honoured to be recognised for our hard work and dedication,’ the team added.

They were entrusted to work on several other episodes of the latest Black Mirror series, including crowd favourite ‘Common People’, for which they were the ‘hero vfx vendor’, and their work ‘took up the lion’s share in that episode’.

Fingers crossed for USS Callister – Into Infinity on Emmy night!

Well done to the entire team for their brilliant work!
