Malta’s neighbouring country registers highest daily new cases for the first time since May
Italy, together with France and the UK are experiencing high numbers of COVID-19.
The spread of COVID-19 has definitely taken its toll, with European countries now experiencing more increases in cases. Across the entire European continent, 2,037,588 cases were recorded yesterday. Italy, France and the UK recorded a significant surge in cases of COVID-19 over the weekend after the countries lifted their respective lockdown measures.
Italy recorded 1,210 cases just yesterday alone (the highest since May), as well as seven more deaths.Since the start of the pandemic, Italy’s total number is nearing 260,000. The government is reportedly resisting a second lockdown so far but have taken on measures to help prevent the spread, including travel restrictions and banning mass events in certain locations.
France reported quite the increase, with 4,897 new cases registered on Sunday – the highest daily figure according to reports. France’s health minister noted that most cases appear in 20-40-year-olds and the situation is “risky.” Cases among the elderly are on the rise, too. However, the minister has ruled out a total lockdown.
Our friends over in the UK recorded 1,041 new positive cases yesterday. According to published stats, six people passed away after testing positive the last month, compared with the 18 deaths announced yesterday.
