Locals shared kind words in tribute to one of Comino’s last residents.
It’s a sad day for locals as one of Comino’s last residents has sadly passed away. Anglu Vella, more affectionately known as ‘Anglu ta’ Kemmuna’ lived a simple life along with two of his relatives, Salvu and Veggie, who are known to be the only three inhabitants of Malta’s littlest isle.
Sadly, the island has now become a home to two people, and as news spread of Anglu’s passing, locals shared tributes to the “angel without wings.”
Gozitan MEP Josianne Cutajar shared a sweet memory during her electoral campaign. “During a live stream with the family I asked him to remind me his name – he said Anglu, without wings though!” she remembers, also offering her condolences to Salvu and Veggie.
A local page, LaburistiPozittivi shared that the family’s story goes back a hundred years and previously 17 people used to live on the island. For a long time, it was just Anglu, Salvu and Veggie. Private Secretary Dominic Grech, while offering his condolences, lamented that the generation of those living on Comino is slowly coming to an end.
According to one local, Anglu’s funeral will be held tomorrow, Saturday 12th December. The coffin will leave Gozo General Hospital at 3.30pm and a mass at Ghajnsielem will be celebrated at 4pm.
Rest in peace, Anglu!
