Earlier today, a local photographer posted an utterly picturesque shot of a road in Kercem, Gozo to his Facebook page, Kappa Vision, asking followers a loaded question: “Are these the roads you’d love to see more of?” And honestly, we’re answering with a big, fat YES.

Jean-Paul Borg, the eyes behind this stunning shot, told us about this gorgeous spot in Kercem, and his take on Malta's current development situation. “In a perfect world, we’d all love to have more roads like that one, but then reality hits – we’ll probably be driving through more flyovers in the future, or maybe in flying cars in Bladerunner style, given the high-rise buildings popping up everywhere.”

Jean-Paul discusses the impact development has had on such countryside roads. “Road development has improved drastically and at least they are doing something to improve what is probably a unique situation we have here with so many cars on such a small island.”

However, he does say there is a need to take care of such idyllic roads. “I think the country roads need to be protected: rubble walls taken care of, weeds and grass removed regularly and if these roads are to be resurfaced, this should be done properly and not with cement of inappropriate materials for that type of road. So, we need to preserve what we have!”

Jean-Paul has been into photography since 2005, but Kappa Vision was born about three years ago, which he uses to highlight Maltese tradition, culture, history, life and memories of Malta. While he’s originally from Malta, Jean-Paul has lived in Gozo for the past four years and comes down to Malta for his ‘photo missions’.
