Yup, you read that right! The local jewellery brand is going global! After releasing their latest fall collection Munita (that had us totally floored, btw), we asked the Mvintage team where this all stemmed from, and they told us all about the new collection and their upcoming plans to take the brand overseas.
“When I started this journey back in 2012, I was greatly influenced by the strong and interesting women in my own life. I wanted to design jewellery that could help them express their unique personalities,” Krystle Penza, Mvintage founder and designer, says, also drawing on Malta’s rich history featuring lace, floor tiles, luzzus and the sea in various collections.
The new collection is an exquisite reflection of the rich history and vibrant culture found everywhere you look across the Maltese Islands. And Malta’s old currency embodies just that.
“I wanted to capture the charm of a simpler time in Malta’s history,” she says, recalling a fond memory of her grandmother who would sneak a coin into her hand, telling her to ‘buy something nice.’ So, you could say her grandmother was the inspiration behind the brand’s striking collection.
“I began by sketching the shapes and motifs of old Maltese coins which were stored in my childhood home. My ideas for this collection materialised from the jewellery which was very much part of my past and that of my predecessors. The result is a collection infused with romantic memories of times gone by.”
Big plans for the future
And, a announced during the Concept Store’s launch event last week, Mvintage is going global! Hold my poodle, because I can’t handle this! The Mvintage team told us that “customers outside of Malta can purchase all our products from our website and have them delivered to their door since we offer worldwide shipping.”
“For the time being, there are no physical samples displayed or sold in any shops abroad.” When asked about the possibility of opening a store somewhere other than our islands, the team confirmed that it is in the pipeline, however “it’s still early days.” #YAS
