It will soon become easier – and more scenic – to travel between Malta and Gozo! The much-anticipated Sliema–Gozo ferry project has officially launched, promising faster sea connections and improved coastal transport for locals and visitors alike.

As part of this initiative, Tal-Linja Card holders can now enjoy free rides between Sliema and Buġibba, making this route a game-changer for daily commuters and summer adventurers.

The newly completed breakwater and ferry terminal in Buġibba has been inaugurated, setting the stage for a new fast ferry service connecting Sliema, Buġibba, and Mġarr, Gozo. A call for proposals will soon be issued for private operators to manage the route, aiming to boost the uptake of sea travel across Malta’s coasts.

The 180-metre breakwater in Buġibba Bay has been designed to reduce wave impact and protect moored fishing boats and small vessels. A 36-metre secondary arm adds further protection during rough weather, while the brand-new terminal includes sheltered waiting areas and facilities to improve the passenger experience.

Looking forward to enjoying Malta’s coastline from a new perspective?
