It’s been two years since the horrific February storm that locals dubbed as ‘Hurricane Dnegel’
It was pretty wack.

Two years ago, Malta experienced quite the winter season which saw a bunch of hail and an insane storm that left some mild chaos in its wake all in a matter of a week.

Obviously, in times of crisis, us Maltese do what we do best: make fun of the situation. The storm was dubbed as Hurricane Dnegel (yes, that is Legend spelled backwards), even though it wasn’t a hurricane at all.

The frightening weather wreaked quite some havoc on the Maltese islands including uprooted trees, boat damage and the best one – flying fish. Literally. The restraints around a fish farm in Xemxija broke and a bunch of fish were thrown onto the seaside road.

Weather experts told GuideMeMalta at the time that the storm, while not even considered a Medicane, it was indeed “one of the worst” ever to be experienced by Malta. “Hurricane force winds are considered as sustained winds over 118kmh which was far from the case,” they said at the time.

Let's hope Hurricane Dnegel doesn't make a comeback anytime soon!
