Beautiful!

Our country exudes beauty like no other from time gone by, showing off different settlers who called Malta home and had a great impact on our society, architecture and history. This site in Birzebbuga prove that Mother Nature is truly incredible.

Local Facebook page Malta, Prehistory and Antiquity shared some information about the gorgeous Birzebbuga Bronze Age silos. “A good number of silos, around 15 have survived to this day, unfortunately some were lost during construction of the adjacent road,” they share.

“The site is a few metres away from Borg in-Nadur, which is another prehistoric site and Ghar Dalam, which is a small distance away up the road. It is uncertain why the silos have sunk into the sea....it could be either due to sea rise or to some cataclysmic event that made the ground sink.”

“A pair of cart ruts can also [be] seen in the vicinity. Quarrying has also provided us with a cross section of 2 silos...the surviving ones are full of silt from the sea. The silos were most probably covered with a capstone when in use.”

How cool is that?!
