History made! Maltese Sgt. Matthew Parnis becomes first non-American to win U.S. Marines Award
Malta shone bright at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
Sergeant Matthew Parnis has carved his name into the history books by becoming the first-ever Maltese – and the only person outside the United States – to receive the prestigious ‘Gung-Ho Award’ from the United States Marine Corps. This honour was awarded during the Sergeant's Course held at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina – one of the most respected military training grounds in the world.
This exceptional award is not handed out lightly. It recognises the Marine who most exemplifies motivation, extraordinary leadership values, team spirit, dedication, and an outstanding commitment to duty. For a Maltese soldier to be selected from among a class of elite U.S. Marines speaks volumes of Matthew’s character, work ethic, and the values instilled in him.
Congratulations to Sergeant Parnis!
