Casa Bonavita was built in 1715 and has now been transformed into a stunning 17-bedroom hotel
A stunning hotel is set to open in a converted Baroque palazzo in Attard next month.
Casa Bonavita was built in 1715 as a country residence for a family with Venetian roots but was recently purchased by Christopher and Suzanne Sharp, the founders of the London-based The Rug Company.
The hotel features 17 bedrooms, each with its own unique features, such as balconies, private terraces, tiled bathrooms and antique furniture. One of them even has its own private walled garden and swimming pool.
Other amenities include two additional outdoor swimming pools shaded by date palms, an outdoor and indoor bar, a restaurant, a gym and a spa.
In an interview with The Financial Times, the Sharps recounted how they first stumbled upon Casa Bonavita during a 2010 visit to Malta, which is were Suzanne was born.
Impressed by its nostalgic and unspoiled vibe and its beautiful high-walled gardens, they decided to purchase the property, initially as an occasional residence, before eventually deciding to convert it into a hotel.
“We wanted to create the hotel we’d like to find in Malta, to show people the island that we see,” said Suzanne.
Christopher said they were inspired by Beirut’s iconic Albergo Hotel and clarified that they don’t intend this to be the first link in a new chain of hotels.
“We want to create this one lovely institution so that if you’re into design, and come to Malta, you’ll stay here,” he said.
