Caregivers will also be entitled to five days of leave.
A new EU Work-Life Balance Directive coming into effect in Malta on 2nd August 2022 dictates that new fathers get to enjoy 10 days of paternity leave.
Prior to this, fathers in Malta were only entitled to a single day of paternity leave.
The 10 days of leave can be taken within the first 15 days of the baby’s birth.
This is just one of four benefits Maltese parents and carers get to enjoy following the directive’s implementation.
From 2nd August, all new parents in Malta will be entitled to two months of paid parental leave each together with two months of transferrable leave between them.
Prior to the directive, parents were entitled to four weeks of unpaid leave each.
Caregivers and parents of young kids are also set to benefit from this EU directive.
That’s right - carers will now be entitled to five days of leave and parents of children aged less than eight-years-old can request flexible work.
