Had (or having) problems with your Melita internet this afternoon? The telecommunications company has shared that it has suffered a DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attack that was affecting its internet service.

“Our Internet Services are being disrupted due to a DDOS attack by cybercriminals. We are implementing mitigation measures to counter this attack,” Melita shared on socials. Reportedly, they also shared in an official statement that these cybercriminals were “aiming to extort money.”

"Cyberattacks of this nature, are increasingly common and Melita invests substantially in cybersecurity to ensure service continuity and to protect customer information. The impact of such cyberattacks is being largely mitigated thanks to these extensive cybersecurity measures," the statement said.

“We would like to assure you that no systems were penetrated or breached. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
