Happy World Photo Day! 10 beautiful photos that capture everything we love about Maltese summer
Some visual reminders of why Malta in summer is truly one of a kind.

By the time August rolls around, the Maltese Islands are well into their third month of summer, and with at least a few more weeks of heat to go, it’s no wonder many of us are starting to feel a little worn out. At the start of the season, every beach day and golden sunset feels photo-worthy, but now it can be harder to appreciate the beauty all around us. Luckily, these talented Instagrammers are here to remind us of the little (and big) joys that make Maltese summer so special.

In celebration of World Photo Day, here are 10 photos that capture the season at its very best.

1. People-spotting

No season beats summer for grabbing a cold drink, finding a shady bench, and watching the world (and its characters) go by.

2. The odd dramatic sky

Last weekend was proof that although it’s often going to be sunny, the odd storm is never too far off.

3. Boat-spotting

For a low-effort, high-fun activity with friends, stroll along a marina (Birgu, Ta’ Xbiex, or Xemxija are great starting points) and marvel at the wonderfully quirky names people christen their boats with.

4. Splashes of colour in unexpected places

The bright summer sun just makes Malta’s colours POP like no other season does.

5. Little monuments to Malta’s quirkiness

Summer’s slower pace is perfect for spotting oddities you’d usually miss in winter’s rush – like this colourful beauty in Gozo.

6. Malta after dark

It’s not just Mdina and Valletta that take on new personalities during the balmy summer nights (although they are stunning too).

7. Make a four-legged friend

A friendly stray lounging in the sun could easily become the muse for your next Instagram post!

8. The ever-photogenic festa

If you haven’t done so yet, make your way to a village feast – your camera will thank you.

9. A salute to a Malta gone by

Slow your pace and let it take you backwards in time to when telephone boxes were a thing.

10. Lounge in a garden’s shade

Not keen on the blazing sun? Malta and Gozo’s gardens are ready to welcome you with shady trees, cool benches, and a much-needed breeze.

Which of these are you out to capture next?
