This year marks a significant milestone - 10 years since the grand reopening of Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum, following an ambitious restoration that transformed the iconic star-shaped fort into a vibrant symbol of Malta’s heritage.

Once left weathered by time and sea, Fort St Elmo has undergone a remarkable rebirth. The 2015 restoration project didn’t just preserve its storied walls, but it elevated the entire visitor experience.

New spaces like the Abercrombie Bastion and the Harbour Fire Command were revealed, while interpretation throughout the site was enhanced to engage and educate guests more meaningfully.

The fort's ongoing preservation remains a priority, with the Gardjola project standing out as its most significant maintenance effort yet.

Over the past decade, Fort St Elmo has become one of Heritage Malta’s most beloved sites. It has played host to major international events including the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Malta’s EU Presidency, and the Malta Biennale.

Its atmospheric architecture has also made it a sought-after venue for concerts, exhibitions, and international film productions such as Murder on the Orient Express and Napoleon.

Fort St Elmo stands not only as a monument of the past but as a dynamic cultural hub, blending history with contemporary relevance.

Here's to another decade of stories, events, and unforgettable moments within its mighty bastions.
