Ghouls and satire: This alternative carnival in Ghaxaq will make your hair stand on end!
For those of you who like the more eerie side of carnival, Nadur in Gozo is not the only place to satisfy your ghoulish desires. The southern Maltese town of Ghaxaq also holds a similar carnival, annually. And, with its homemade masks and creepy costumes, it is definitely worth venturing there to experience it.

It might seem strange that a macabre, spontaneous carnival is held in a small, agricultural village like Ghaxaq. However, the tradition is actually more than a century old.
From pictures posted on a dedicated Facebook page, villagers clearly put a lot of thought, time and energy into their costumes. Some of the highlights have included a haunting procession of a deck of cards, a man wrapped in stifling rope and, of course, everyone's favourite ghoul, Donald Trump.
