Friends kickstart GoFundMe page for local man left with 60% burns after freak boat fire
The accident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Friends of Karl Pace, a local who suffered serious injuries during a freak early morning fire at Gozo's Mgarr Marina are collecting funds to support him during a lengthy recovery period estimated around three months.
In their GoFundMe description, they explained that Karl had been sleeping in one of the boats that caught fire and somewhat luckily, he woke up. However, he needed to run though the fire to get off the boat, an action which although saved his life left him with 60% of his body burnt.
"Thankfully none of his vital organs were damaged and his face did not suffer any burning either...He will spend the whole next month in hospital and it will be some time before he can walk again," they wrote.
"We want to support him during his time of recovery and ensure his rent and other living costs get paid without worries and struggles. He deserves time to fully rest and receive now. If Karl has touched your life in any way and you would like to support him, please leave what you can, any small amount will help."
Karl is presently unaware of the collection however his friends insist they want to help in anyway they can: "We know many people are going through difficult times themselves at the moment and are financially struggling, which of course we respect and understand. If this is you, your thoughts and prayers for Karl's recovery, along with any well wishes you wish to send him, either written or non-spoken are equally as valued," they concluded.
At the time of writing, the GoFundMe page in support of Karl has generated over €10,000, more than two-thirds of the target €15,000 sum.
Every little bit helps!
