Final summer weekend! Malta's forecast spells clouds, humidity and a slim chance of showers
Chances of showers over the weekend currently stand at 25%

Although you may always associate the end of summer with the beginning of the scholastic year, which happens next week for most, the meteorological autumn actually began at the beginning of September – much as the recent weather has been showing us!

What starts next Sunday 22nd September is known as ‘astronomical autumn’, marking the autumn equinox, one of the two times in a year when the Sun manages to illuminate both of Earth's hemispheres equally.

If you were hoping to spend the last days of astronomical summer at the beach, this afternoon is probably your best bet, as that’s when the clouds covering the skies this morning should give way to some fine weather this afternoon and evening.

The weekend should be drier than the past couple of days have been, with only 25% chance of rain so far, but will remain largely cloudy. Temperatures will remain fairly warm throughout the day, with real feel temperatures reaching 29 degrees on Sunday due to the high humidity, but the evenings should remain cool, like the ones we’ve been enjoying recently.

If you do decide to go for a dip, all bays around Malta are marked as safe from currents, as the winds have calmed down recently.

However, if there’s anything the weather of the past few days has taught us, it’s that the island’s weather is quite unstable at the moment, so make sure to keep updated and check the forecast before making any big plans!

Are you enjoying the recent autumnal weather?

20th September 2024
