Wow! Historic Saluting Battery in Valletta entrance given new life through restoration works
Ambjent Malta replaced a number of missing and eroded stone banisters.
Restoration works at the Upper Barrakka Gardens have taken another important step forward, as Ambjent Malta replaces a significant number of missing and eroded stone banisters lining the elegant entrance to the Saluting Battery in Valletta.
The graceful stone balustrade, which frames one of the capital’s most iconic viewpoints, had suffered considerable wear over time.
Several decorative stone vases that adorn the banister were also found to be broken or missing. These have now been carefully replaced, restoring the historic entrance to its former splendour and enhancing the overall aesthetic of the gardens.
Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna expressed its gratitude to Ambjent Malta for the restoration works and continued collaboration. The intervention forms part of a wider revamp of the Upper Barrakka Gardens, aimed at preserving both their visual appeal and structural integrity.
The project follows extensive waterproofing works carried out by Ambjent Malta in partnership with Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna. These efforts were undertaken to safeguard the historic War Headquarters Tunnels located beneath the gardens, protecting them from irrigation systems and storm water infiltration.
