It’s the second time he’ll be performing on the Islands.
The famous and much-loved singer Gianni Morandi will be performing live in Malta once again on 12th April at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali. OK, I know what you millennials are thinking... Who the heck is this guy? Here's all you need to know!
Who is Gianni Morandi?
Gianni Morandi is an Italian pop culture icon who worked his way up from the bottom of the entertainment industry. Over the years he won small talent competitions, but was recognised in 1987 for his winning performance at the prestigious Sanremo Festival.
His career slowed down a little in the 90s and 2000s, but he made a late-period comeback (and his biggest success in decades) in 2016 when he teamed up with vintage pop legend Claudio Baglioni for a project called Capitani Coraggiosi, all at 71 years old!
It is estimated that Gianni has sold more than 50 million records over his career. Apart from being an Italian pop legend, he has also appeared in numerous films and played various roles in popular TV series. In fact, he’s among Italy’s greatest performers of all time.
Gianni Morandi in Malta
Gianni’s first show in Malta was back in 2007, performing alongside Italian singers Claudio Baglioni and Riccardo Cocciante. In an interview 12 years ago, Morandi said he was surprised by the warm welcome he received from locals. He’s basically a legend to the Maltese, especially the older generations!
Gianni’s show on 12th April will feature more than 40 tracks from his repertoire, forming the ultimate playlist showcasing his astounding 60-year career. He will be performing famous songs such as Occhi di ragazza, Scende la pioggia, La fisarmonica, Non son degno di te, Una vita che ti sogno, and much more.
Tickets will be out soon!
