Exclusive entry! Madliena Fort opens its doors to the public for a rare visit this Sunday 2nd March
Discover Malta's military past!

Francesca Vella

This Sunday will bring a rare opportunity for history enthusiasts to visit Madliena Fort, also known as Fort Madalena, and to explore the historic area surrounding it. Normally closed to the public, the fort will open its doors for a guided tour, courtesy of the AFM (Armed Forces of Malta) and St. John Rescue Corps, starting at 9 AM. Visitors will discover the fort's history, architecture, and military significance, led by knowledgeable guides.

After the tour of the fort, participants will embark on a scenic walk through the Madliena area, visiting additional military installations along the way. The walk includes a visit to an underground area, so be sure to bring a torch or use your mobile phone for lighting!

The entire walk will take about three hours, with an easy to moderate difficulty rating as there will be some steps to descend and ascend. The meeting point for this event, organised by Ramblers Malta, is at the parking area in front of Fort Madliena. For additional details or any questions, you can reach out to the organisers directly on their Facebook page.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to step back in time and explore some of Malta's hidden military history!

Have you ever explored the area surrounding Madliena Fort?
