Did you get soaked or stay dry? Recent rainfall varied drastically across the Maltese Islands
This tiny island brought some big differences in rainfall recently!

If you felt like the past few days were a complete downpour, or barely a drizzle – you’re not wrong. The amount of rain that fell across the Maltese Islands recently depended entirely on where you were.

The Maltese Islands Weather page has shared that, despite Malta’s small size, mid-October brought remarkably uneven rainfall as instability returned to the central Mediterranean. While some localities were hit with heavy showers, others stayed almost completely dry!

Areas around the Grand Harbour and across Gozo experienced the most rainfall, while southern Malta also saw its fair share. If you were in Msida yesterday, you definitely experienced this, as the low-lying locality saw a whopping 49.8mm of rain, causing significant flooding and car troubles for those on the road. In contrast, the western parts of Gozo and northern Malta remained largely untouched by the rain, with Mellieħa getting just 0.7mm of rain yesterday.

The differences were striking even within short distances. In Għarb, Gozo, the outskirts closer to Victoria recorded 29.5 mm of rain, while just a few kilometres away near Wied il-Mielaħ, only 0.8 mm fell. In Żebbuġ, Gozo, no rain was recorded at all, yet Marsalforn, just downhill, saw a whole 21mm of rainfall.

While today isn’t expected to bring anything like yesterday’s downpours, tomorrow (Wednesday 15th October) is expected to bring more thunderstorms – so wear some weather-proof shoes and carry an umbrella!

Did you get caught in the rain yesterday?
