Did you feel that? Tremors from Sicilian earthquake rattle Malta & Gozo
Not your average wake-up call!

Francesca Vella

If you’re a light sleeper, you might have felt the ground shake at 3.26 AM – it wasn’t just a bad dream! A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Sicily, with tremors making their way to Malta and Gozo.

According to local weather portal 'Aġġornament tat-Temp', the quake's epicentre was located roughly 88 km from Catania and 84 km from Siracusa, at a depth of 48.5 km.

Reports of the tremors have been pouring in from all over the islands, including Żurrieq, Floriana, Mellieħa, Mġarr, and Gżira. Several people described feeling their beds shake and hearing windows or doors rattle. Some even said their pets were visibly unsettled in the early hours.

Luckily, no damage or tsunami threats have been reported so far – just a jolt to start the day a little earlier than expected.
