Ritienne Zammit is a multi-award winning Maltese fashion designer who's love for the heritage and the rich history of the islands shines through in every garment. She has presented runway shows at both Malta and Serbia Fashion Week and was the Official Designer for Malta Fashion Week's official dress in 2017.

The brand continues to explore its Maltese roots with every new collection through digital print and flamboyant silhouettes, and we couldn't wait to get the lowdown on this year's inspiration! Here's what Ritienne had to share with Guide Me Malta.

What have your past collections been inspired by?

"Inspiration for my past collections varies from one year to another. 2015's collection was based on Maltese poets, patriots and the Maltese language. I wanted to express the fact that there isn't much gratitude shown towards our language and identity. For example, the Maltese language is the only Semitic language written exclusively in the Latin script, which makes it very special."

"In the meantime, 2016's collection was inspired by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. That year the brand showcased various addictions, mentalities and rituals, while 2017's 'I LOVE VALLETTA' collection was all about the history, love and appreciation towards our capital city, Valletta."

What is the inspiration for this year’s collection?

"This year's collection will take the name of 'VIVA!', meaning long life!. Usually it's a phrase used during the local Maltese festas, and I have also been inspired by local patron saints."

Fantastic! What has been the best moment in your career as a fashion designer so far?

"Being awarded the New Designer Award during the 2013 Malta Fashion Week."
