Clay connections! Maltese and Cypriot artists reunite after 12 years at 'Ceramic Forms'
Ceramic masters unite!

Francesca Vella

Ever wondered what a Mediterranean dialogue in sculpture would look like? Ceramic Forms is bringing Maltese and Cypriot ceramic artists together once again, this time at the Mdina Local Council, reopening a creative dialogue that began years ago between the two islands.

After a 12-year pause, this renewed edition sees established contributors such as Vassos Demetriou, Christina Karekla, Joseph Agius, and Paul Haber exhibiting alongside artists joining the exchange for the first time, including Evie Michaelidou, Katerina Paparadamanthous, Sina Farrugia, and Ruben Formosa. Their combined works explore the full expressive range of clay – from sculptural forms and experimental glazes to textured surfaces and varied firing traditions.

The exhibition also features contemporary interpretations by creators like Eva Papavassiliou, Eleftheria Phili, Maria Theodorou, Mümine Özdemirağ Yağlı, Antoine Paul Camilleri, Kenneth Grima, Charles Sammut, and Mario Sammut, creating a cross-Mediterranean conversation shaped through earth, fire, and technique.

Coordinated by Charles Sammut (Malta) and Vassos Demetriou (Cyprus) and curated by Melanie Erixon, Ceramic Forms offers a vivid look at how two distinct yet connected ceramic traditions continue to evolve.
