Earlier this week, a reservoir dating back to the times of the Knights of St John was discovered in the St Andrew’s Ditch parking area, Valletta.

The reservoir was identified after two seven-and-a-half metre deep openings were found in the car park.

Police was called on-site shortly after the discovery and the area was closed off by members of the Police Force and Clean Malta workers.

At this point in time, the area has been deemed unsafe due to the possibility of a collapse caused by surface water erosion.

Broken slabs and missing arches have also rendered the entire site unstable.

The Belt Valletta Facebook page issued an appeal for anyone who has information about the structure to get in contact with them.

An astounding discovery!
