Festa Lwien is back! Building on the success of the previous editions, the yearly celebration of Maltese culture – including Maltese food, traditional games for kids, music and entertainment, tombola, and above all the talented local artisans selling their handmade products – will be held again at the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village!
Taking inspiration from the ‘Lejla Maltija’ that is so popular at local village feasts and with entertainment for people of all ages, Festa Lwien will this year be held on Saturday, August 24th between 6.30pm and 11pm and – as always – will have a free entrance!
Like any feast that deserves to be called such, the streets of the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village will be decorated and lit up for the occasion, with a large number of stalls lined up along the streets selling traditional food and beverages, as well as a large variety of artisanal products.
Indeed, to complement the artisans resident at the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village who will be opening their workshops, over thirty artisans will be visiting for the occasion and widening the variety of the beautiful, artisanal products on offer.
The selection of food will also be varied and in line with the theme of the local village feasts, in case the feast celebrations work up an appetite for you. From traditional Maltese food prepared by Ta’ Victor; ‘ftajjar’ and pizza baked by Il-Forn ta’ l-Ghawdxi; nougat, sweets, and other delicacies by the Beehive Confectionery; as well as ice-cream by Sottozero – The Gelato Factory!
The evening will once again be animated by Danusan, who will also be doing some sketches on stage ahead of the performance by Kantera, who will be entertaining those present with their traditional Maltese music.
To create an even more festive atmosphere, Tikka Banda will be starting off the musical entertainment with a band march around the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village, playing the tunes that are so popular in local village feasts.
In keeping with tradition, Gorg tad-Donuts will also be organising a tombola in another area of the Ta’ Qali Artisan Village. And while this area may not be the first choice for kids, given that minors under 18 years of age are not allowed to play, Festa Lwien has got them covered too, with an even bigger area filled with lots of games for the younger ones (and perhaps their parents too!)
Reminiscent of those days when kids would play in the streets especially during the summer evenings, Festa Lwien will give them the opportunity to play traditional games such as ‘passju’, ‘lastku’, ‘ħabel’, potato race, and sack race. The kids’ area will also comprise a bouncy castle, trampoline, and – for the first time this year – small karts and train rides!
Festa Lwien is organised by the Malta Crafts Foundation. Visit its website, Facebook or Instagram pages for more information.
Circle the coming August 24th on your calendars, and make sure to join in this celebration and fun for all the family!
