Another country has been added to the list.
Cyprus has joined the list of countries that have imposed travel restrictions on our islands in light of the recent spike in cases. The Cypriot Health Ministry has reportedly moved Malta to its ‘C’ classification from ‘A’.
Countries on the ‘A’ list have no travel restrictions, while those on the ‘C’ list is restricted to returning travellers who have to then undergo the 14-day quarantine period. Arrivals from the ‘B’ classification must present a negative test result upon arrival.
When Cyprus opened its airports back in June, Malta had unrestricted travel access and could start operating from 9th June. However, that has all changed since the surge in cases a few weeks back. Like Malta, Australia and Spain have also been put in the same category and restrictions come into effect on Thursday.
This isn’t the first time travel restrictions have been imposed on the Maltese Islands. There are currently 12 European countries that have some sort of travel restrictions be it the presentation of a negative test results, mandatory quarantine or a total ban. The US has also advised against non-essential travel to Malta, deeming Malta as “high-risk.”
