Over the weekend, a team from the Malta Weightlifting Association took part in the Trophy of the Blue Swords in Meissen, Germany. This historic tournament, renowned for its unique format where men and women compete directly against each other, brought together some of the strongest lifters from across the globe.

First on stage for Malta was Roberta Tabone. After a nervous start in the Snatch, she steadied herself to lift 85kg. In the Clean & Jerk, she impressed with 107kg and then a personal best of 111kg. On her final attempt, she narrowly missed the Jerk at 115kg, which would have been a new national record.

Next up was Rylee Borg, who opened confidently with 120kg in the Snatch, followed by 124kg. He attempted 127kg but was unsuccessful. In the Clean & Jerk, Borg was in top form, securing 155kg and then a national record of 161kg. He came close to 165kg on his last lift but just missed the Jerk.
