At last! You can ride Malta’s buses for FREE from next month
This only applies to Maltese residents.

As of Saturday 1st October, Tallinja Card holders can ride any and all bus routes across Malta and Gozo for free.

This includes all day, night, and special service routes.

“Passengers are still required to tap their personalised Tallinja Card on the ticketing machine every time they board the bus,” Tallinja explained on Facebook.

“Those passengers who board the bus without a personalised Tallinja Card will have to pay for a ticket upon boarding,” it continued.

News of this development was first revealed during the 2022 budget, held last October.

Prior to this, public buses were already free for those aged between 14 and 20, students over 21, people living with a disability, and 70-plus elderly card holders.

However, this initiative makes public transport free for every single resident of Malta.

This does not apply to tourists who buy an ‘Explore’ card as they still have to pay like before.
