He was born in Gozo but later moved to Sliema.
The Sliema community is mourning the loss of renowned architect Andre Zammit, who passed away last night aged 90 years old.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, son Robin dedicated a touching eulogy to his father: "Farewell Pops. You made the best of your 90 years on this earth and I'm eternally grateful for the good life you gave my mother, myself and my 3 siblings/partners as well as your 11 grandchildren. From a small town Gozitan boy, you left an impeccable legacy behind, for us all to uphold in your memory," he wrote.
Andre left behind him a momentuous legacy and was the man behind the gabbana at Fond Ghadir, as well as its siblings in Msida and Gzira. He was also involved in the National Road Flyover and Underpass projects.
Andre, who studied in London and Milan, was also a lecturer at the University of Malta and was heavily involved in historical research and gave many talks over the years highlighting Malta and Gozo's architectural legacies.
Our condolences to family members and friends.
