April’s coldest start? Malta wakes up to 9°C, hail, and a waterspout over Bugibba
If you woke up shivering this morning, you weren’t alone! Malta experienced an unseasonably cold start to the month, with temperatures dropping to a frosty 9°C – a stark contrast to April 1st last year, which saw a balmy 30°C.
Adding to the dramatic shift in weather, some areas saw heavy rainfall, hail showers, and even a rare waterspout over Bugibba. The striking phenomenon, captured by photographer David Abela, was shared by Maltese Islands Weather earlier this morning, as a reminder of just how unpredictable Malta’s weather can be, even in the warmer months!
After a weekend characterised by unstable weather that brought a particularly rainy March to an end, the rest of the week promises to be largely stable, aside from a strong north westerly wind that will follow this morning's rain, although this should calm down by the end of the day.
Spring in Malta has arrived with surprises – will the warm weather return soon? Stay tuned!
