1. Marsa Sports Club, Marsa

The oldest and largest sports club on the island, Marsa Sports Club has 19 tennis courts, of which two are clay surfaced and the rest hard courts. The club is just 10 minutes’ drive from Valletta and includes a golf course, croquet, gym and squash courts. Non-members can book 90-minute tennis sessions for €7.45 in the morning or €8.40 in the afternoon. Floodlit sessions cost €16.85. Racquets can be hired for €1.75. 2. Asciak Tennis Academy, Marsa

If you’re looking for top class coaching, look no further than this tennis academy run by Malta’s former number one tennis player Gordon Asciak. Operating from Marsa Sports Club, the academy runs a one week intensive summer camp between June and August, tailor-made to fit the requirements of each player on an individual basis.   

3. Tennisline, Pembroke

Whether you’re looking for a private tennis lesson or simply to book a court for a fun hour, Tennisline is a great option for the serious amateur. Run by an international team of pro coaches and players, Tennisline has just opened two brand new hard courts in Pembroke Gardens within striking distance of the popular hotels in St Julians. 4. Swieqi Tennis Club, Swieqi

At just €4 per hour, this community tennis court is the cheapest court you can book in Malta. It is situated in the heart of the residential town of Swieqi, a mere five minutes drive from Sliema and St Julians. Book online. 5. Zebbug Tennis Club, Zebbug

Situated within the grounds of St Dorothy’s School in Zebbug, this club is centrally located within easy reach of Malta’s northern resorts. The club has four hard surface floodlit courts and supports the Maltese national tennis team and the Malta Tennis Federation junior tennis academy, who train here twice weekly. 6. Hilton Malta hotel, St Julian's

You don’t need to be a guest at the five-star Hilton Hotel in St Julian's to use their tennis court. For just €17, tourists can enjoy not just the tennis court but also full day access to the Livingwell centre including its gym, spa, pool and squash courts. T: +356 2138 3383. 

7. Radisson Blu Resort, St Julian's 

If you’re going to play tennis while on holiday in the Mediterranean, you’d really want to be as close as possible to the sea. The two hard surface tennis courts at the five-star Radisson Blu Resort in St Julian's are perched on the rocky coastline overlooking the sea. Caution: the view can get distracting. 8. Radisson Blu Resort & Spa Golden Sands, Golden Bay

Assuming you can tear yourself away from the glorious sandy beach, the five-star hotel has a floodlit hard surfaced tennis court to help you burn off those holiday calories. Free for guests, the court is also available for non-hotel guests at a charge of €8 per hour. T: +356 2356 1000. 

9. Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard

This elegant five-star hotel next door to the official residence of the President of Malta has a floodlit grass tennis court which is also open to non-hotel guests at a cost of €6 per hour if playing singles or €12 per hour if playing doubles. T: +356 2144 0301 or E: [email protected] 

10. Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz, Gozo

Should you feel the urge to bat a few balls while enjoying some R&R on Malta’s idyllic sister island of Gozo, you can book one of the two hard surface tennis courts at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz.
