Mnarja, one of Malta’s oldest cultural traditions, is returning this month with a jam-packed calendar of events.
Mnarja 2026 will start on Saturday 20th June with a Mass at St Paul’s Cathedral, Mdina and a subsequent band performance.
The event will then move to Buskett, where a number of animal shows will be held. A canine show featuring local dog breeds will take place on Thursday 25th June, an equine show on Friday 26th, and a goat and sheep show on Saturday 27th.
Several activists will take place on Sunday evening (from 5pm onwards), including a horse-drawn cab and cart parade from Saqqaja to Buskett, a showcase of fruit, vegetables and rabbits, traditional games, folk singing and music, a tractor display, a cattle show, and an immersive experience at the National Viticulture and Oenology Centre.
Many of these activities will take place again on the morning of Monday 29th June, a public holiday.
Launching the activities, Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo said that Mnarja remains an important celebration of Malta’s agricultural and rural heritage work and recognition of the work carried out by farmers and herdsmen.
