Ancient narratives come alive! ‘Gods & Monsters’ on display at Mqabba’s Kamra ta’ Fuq from Wednesday
Inviting viewers to challenge their perceptions of divinity and monstrosity

Jessica DeMers is an American artist based in Malta, with a particular interest in depicting stories of a historical nature. In the exhibition ‘Gods & Monsters’, which opens at Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq in Mqabba on Wednesday 4th December, she takes on an exploration into the realms of ancient myth and religion, challenging one’s most steadfast perceptions of divinity and monstrosity.

Gods and monsters

Curated by Melanie Erixon, the exhibition provides a journey in which gods are no longer infallible icons but multifaceted beings, filled with both passions and fallibilities that bring them closer to the human experience.

Monsters, in turn, are re-imagined not as symbols of pure evil but as complex figures, often formed by misunderstood origins, vulnerability, or tragedy. This redefined lens encourages viewers to explore the inherent dualities of light and shadow that reside not only within mythological characters, but also within themselves.

Gods and monsters

In this way, ‘Gods & Monsters’ stands as both an introspective mirror and an invitation to empathy, reminding us of the beauty and complexity inherent in every story, real or mythical.

The exhibition will run between 4th and 29th December – don’t miss it!
