A Sense of Place: A thought-provoking collective exhibition opens at The Phoenicia in Floriana
Ten artists come together to share what 'place' means to them.

This August, The Palm Court Lounge at The Phoenicia Malta will transform into a space of reflection and creativity with the launch of A Sense of Place – a collective exhibition that brings together ten diverse artists exploring the meaning of ‘place’ in art.

Curated by Professor Charlene Vella, the exhibition opens on Saturday 9th August at 10 AM and invites visitors to delve into how the concept of ‘place’ – be it physical, emotional, architectural, or imagined – shapes identity, memory, and artistic expression.

From the ambience of a forgotten café to the sun-soaked essence of the Mediterranean, each piece on display offers a unique interpretation of what ‘place’ means to the artist.

The exhibition includes a variety of artists: from established names such as Kenneth Zammit Tabona, Peter Quinn, Andrew Diacono, Henry Falzon, and Johanna Wells Barthet, to artists with emerging reputations like Marlene Gouder and Mariam De Giorgio. Adding fresh perspectives are three recent graduates from the University of Malta’s Fine Arts programme, namely Kathrine Maj, Emma Incorvaja, and Mireille Vella, bringing their promising new talent to the local art scene.

A Sense of Place is open daily throughout August 2025, and admission is free.
