In a series of documents shared by the National Archives of Malta, one can see the invitation of Malta’s Prime Minister, Paul Boffa, to the wedding of the then Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip.

The wedding took place on the 20th November, 1947 and Paul Boffa was invited to the royal breakfast that was held on the morning of the wedding at the spectacular Buckingham Palace.

At the breakfast, they served ‘Filet de Sole Mountbatten’, ‘Perdreau un Casserole’, ‘Haricots Verts’, ‘Pommes Noisette’, ‘Salade Royale’, ‘Bombe Glacee Princesse Elizabeth’ and ‘Friandises’ together with dessert and coffee.

Apart from the menu, the documents uploaded show the seating chart of where the Maltese Prime Minister was seated. He was sitting on the same table as Prince George of Denmark, the Count of Barcelona, Princess Rene de Bourbon Parme and the Dowage Duchess of Devonshire, alongside many others.

These records are being uploaded in the lead up to the open day the National Archives are holding in Rabat next Sunday, 26th November, 2023.
