A magnitude 6.6 earthquake has just hit the Central-Eastern Mediterranean
Turkey, Egypt, Greece and Libya have been affected

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake has just struck off the coast of Crete in the Central-Eastern area of the Mediterranean Sea and was felt across Greece, Turkey, Libya and Egypt.

The earthquake was registered earlier this afternoon but there is no word yet of damage or injuries on Crete, which suffered the worst brunt of it. The tremors were felt thrice - a 5.4 magnitude one at 3:33pm, a 4.7 one at 3:45pm and a 6.6 one at 3:51pm. The last two had the same epicentre.

Alarm has also been raised of a possible tsunami, however experts believe only a shallow thrust will be felt and occurence of a tsunami is unlikely.
