The Osprey is also known as ‘Arpa’ in Maltese.
Birdlife Malta recently treated nature enthusiasts to a breathtaking video capturing the majestic presence of an Osprey. This magnificent bird of prey surprised viewers with a majestic visit and showcased its unparalleled hunting skills, gracefully swooping down to catch fish in the wetland.
The footage not only showed the Osprey's remarkable agility but also highlighted its brief respite on high wooden poles thoughtfully placed within the serene reserve.
The Osprey, also known as ‘Arpa’ in Maltese, is a migratory species deeply connected to lakes, where it hunts its preferred prey. In Malta, sightings of this species occur during both autumn migration in September and spring migrations when birds are heading northwards to breed.
Occasionally, individuals of this species pause to rest for a few hours in suitable habitats, such as the one captured last week at Għadira.
The video is a reminder of nature's splendour and the marvels it brings to our islands.
